EV charging station opened at Manikadi by Crack Platoons
After setting two EV charging stations up in Rajshahi and Tejgaon in the capital, Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) has inaugurated a charging point at Manikadi in Dhaka Cantonment by Crack Platoon, an organization of young innovators of the country.
On Saturday (November 25) in the afternoon, Senior Secretary of the Electricity Department Md. Habibur Rahman inaugurated the Electric EV Point at 'Sumatra Filling Station' on No. 5 at Matikata Road in that area.

Habibur Rahman, while addressing as the chief guest at the event said that, the government is working to convert 30 percent of vehicles into electric vehicles by 2030. By 2025, oil and gas vehicles will be reduced and electric vehicles will be increased. Out of this, the target of importing 40 lakh cars has been set. Of which 30 percent or 12 lakh cars will be electric. For that purpose, an initiative has been taken to set up 6 electric vehicle charging stations to encourage private companies with 6 distribution companies under the power department. To implement the initiative, two charging stations have already been set up in Rajshahi and Tejgaon. Electric cars cost three times less than diesel cars. Therefore, electric vehicles should be increased to protect the environment. Moreover importing diesel costs us a huge amount of foreign exchange. If we can electrify 30% of the country's total vehicles, diesel imports will be reduced to a large extent. It is expected that by 2041, 40% of the country's electricity will come from renewable energy sources. It will eliminate fossil fuels. Electric powered environment friendly vehicles will be ensured.
After the inauguration, guests watched the whole process along with charging an EV vehicle.
